Early Friday morning, ESPN.com reported that the Red Sox and Indians were working on a deal that would send Clay Buchholz to Cleveland in exchange for Victor Martinez.

Just a few hours later, however, FoxSports.com reported that the Indians were "pessimistic" that a deal for Martinez would get worked out.

The possible deal reported earlier would have involved a third team.

Also on Friday morning, the New York Daily News wrote that a source indicated that the Sox were "in full pursuit" of Padres first baseman Adrian Gonzalez.

SI.com reports that the Mets have talked to Cleveland about Martinez but "remain long shots" for their unwillingness to part with certain prospects.
