Jason Varitek possesses the honor of wearing the "C" on his jersey for the Red Sox. Paul Pierce serves the captain's role for the Celtics. But the Patriots have a new captain who is far more renowned than either of them.

No, it's not the guy who's married to a supermodel. It's one of the most successful musicians of all time.

Are you ready for love, New England?

The Boston Herald reports that five-time Grammy winner Sir Elton John will be the team's honorary captain when the Patriots take on Tampa Bay at Wembley Stadium on Oct. 25. The music legend himself revealed the news while visiting the owner's box at Gillette Stadium before his concert with Billy Joel on July 18.

The singer-songwriter is reportedly close friends with Patriots owner Robert Kraft.

John has sold over 200 million albums throughout his four-decade career and has accumulated over 50 Top 40 hits and nine No. 1 hits. In addition to his five Grammy's, he also has an Oscar, a Golden Globe and a Tony Award on his mantel.

It may be a part-time love, but it's one that is sure to be memorable. And don't worry; Tom Brady will get his job back on Oct. 26.
