When the Bruins sent Aaron Ward to the Carolina Hurricanes, they were not only sending him back to the franchise that got him a Stanley Cup ring in 2006, they sent him off to be teammates with Scott Walker, the Canes goon who served up the biggest sucker punch of the year this past spring.
Walker was Boston's public enemy No. 1 this postseason. First, he suckered a defenseless Ward straight across the cheek bone at the Garden in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference semifinals. Two games later, he scored the game-winner in overtime of the decisive Game 7 to end the Black and Gold's magical campaign.
Despite the gruesome overhand right, Ward feels that the cowardly act is a thing of the past and Walker has nothing to worry about come training camp. The 36-year-old Ward even made light of the fact that the two will be teammates just months after the incident.
"Tell him I still have practice. I’ll get him back at practice,” Ward joked, as reported by the Boston Herald. “It’s water under the bridge. I’m on his team now … There’s a lot of emotion in the playoffs, both in the media and playing the game … I’ll see Scott Walker when he comes in, shake his hand, tell him how grateful I am to be here, how excited I am to play with him, and it’ll be past."
