The Yankees have traded for starting pitcher Jason Hirsh of the Colorado Rockies organization, according to a tweet from Tyler Kepner of the New York Times.

Hirsh has spent all of 2009 in the minors, compiling a 6.66 ERA in 101 1/3 innings at Triple-A Colorado Springs. The 6-foot-8 righty's best season came in 2007, when he helped the Rockies make the playoffs by putting together a 4.81 ERA in 112 1/3 innings for big league club.

The Yankees gave up a player to be named later for Hirsh, who will be sent to their Triple-A affiliate at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

In an unrelated move, the Yankees also released pitcher Brett Tomko, who had been designated for assignment on July 22 to make room for No. 5 starter Sergio Mitre.
