New York Yankees left-hander Damaso Marte has started a rehab assignment in the Gulf Coast League after missing nearly the entire season with left shoulder tendinitis.

Marte has appeared in seven games this season with an 0-1 record and
15.19 ERA. His last appearance was against the Boston Red Sox on April
25 when he pitched 2/3 of an inning, allowing one earned run with one
strikeout and one walk.

Marte was traded to the Yankees from the Pittsburgh Pirates on July
