Kane was arrested on Aug. 9 after he and his cousin were accused of beating and robbing a 62-year-old cabbie in his hometown of Buffalo. Erie County District Attorney Frank Sedita III said Wednesday in Buffalo that a grand jury dismissed a more serious felony charge of second-degree robbery.
"Yeah, if the felony's dropped that's obviously a positive step — definitely," the 20-year-old Kane told TSN.com on Wednesday. "The sooner it gets over with, the more everyone will be happy."
The cabbie, Jan Radecki, told police that Kane and his cousin James Kane attacked him when he didn't have 20 cents change.
"As is the practice in all criminal cases, the assigned prosecutor and defense counsel will discuss a possible resolution of the case short of trial," Sedita said in a statement.
The No. 1 overall pick in the 2007 draft and the rookie of the year in 2008, Kane had 25 goals and 45 assists last season.
