Daisuke Matsuzaka Roughed up in Rehab Start Since Daisuke Matsuzaka spoke out against the club, there has been mostly good news surrounding the Japanese star and his return to the mound for the Red Sox. The positivity, however, ended abruptly on Sunday, as Matsuzaka was disappointing in his rehab start for the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs.

The third pitch of the afternoon from Matsuzaka was sent out of the ballpark, and things didn’t get better from there. It took 49 pitches for Matsuzaka to get out of the first inning, surrendering four hits, three walks and five earned runs in the process.

Fortunately, Matsuzaka had a quick second inning, retiring the side in order on nine pitches.
