The New York Jets squad that will step on the field in 2009 will be vastly different from the one that made a run at the AFC East title in 2008.
For one, Brett Favre won't be taking the snaps, and New England Public Enemy No. 1 Eric Mangini won't be barking at him on his headset. This year, Rex Ryan is commandeering a new troop which features potential star (and current backup) quarterback Mark Sanchez — a product of Southern Cal — and a shored-up defense which includes Lito Sheppard and Jim Leonhard.
But still, there's only one question fans want an answer to: What are the Jets' odds of bringing home the Vince Lombardi trophy in 2009?
According to Bodog.com, New York's odds of winning the AFC East this year are 8/1. The team's odds of winning the AFC championship are 18/1, and its odds of winning the Super Bowl are 40/1. The Greek Sports Book currently predicts the Jets will win seven games in 2009.
Still, as the Giants proved a couple of years ago, odds mean nothing once the first whistle blows, so Jets fans need not abandon hope yet. After all, Tom Brady could get hurt again. That should improve New York's odds a bit.
