Orioles' Huff Traded to Detroit The trade season isn't quite over yet.

Detroit, perhaps compelled by last week's struggles against the Red Sox, bolstered its offense by acquiring Baltimore's Aubrey Huff on Monday in exchange for minor league pitcher Brett Jacobson.

A chase for the pennant is bound to be a change of pace for Huff — a welcome change.

"I've been in last place basically my whole career, so this is an exciting time for me," Huff told ESPN.com. "I'm looking forward to it."

Huff, 32, played in Tampa Bay for over six seasons before briefly joining Houston in 2006 and then setting off for Baltimore.

Entering Monday night's action, the Tigers held a 2 1/2 game lead over Chicago in the AL Central. Huff currently owns a .253 average with 13 homers and 72 RBIs. His deal with the Orioles was set to expire at the end of the season.

The trade caught him off guard, and while he's excited about the prospect of finally joining a contender, Huff's emotions are bittersweet.

"This is probably the best young talent I've been around, and I've been around some young talent," he told ESPN.com. "You got an All-Star in Adam Jones, and a superstar in Nick Markakis that nobody knows about. [Brian] Matusz, [Chris] Tillman, all these young guys coming up. It's a very exciting time here, and Baltimore should have a lot to look forward to."

Huff plans to join the Tigers on Tuesday prior to their three-game set against Seattle.

"He adds another left-handed bat to our ballclub and is a middle-of-the-lineup type hitter," Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski told the Web site. "We've worked on trying to get a bat for a while."
