Add another former Raider to the Patriots' roster. On Thursday, New England acquired veteran defensive player Derrick Burgess in a trade with Oakland for draft considerations.

According to the National Football Post, New England gave up a third-round pick in 2010 and fifth-round pick in 2011.

The 6-foot-2, 260-pound Burgess is an eight-year NFL veteran. Drafted by the Eagles in the third round (63rd overall) out of Mississippi in 2001, he spent four seasons in Philadelphia before joining the Raiders as an unrestricted free agent in 2005.

Burgess earned Pro Bowl honors in his first two seasons in Oakland, registering an NFL-leading 16 sacks in 2005 (the most ever by a Raiders player in a season) and 11 sacks in 2006. In 85 career games, he has accumulated 227 total tackles and 47 sacks.

The addition improves the Patriots' pass rush and won't break the bank. Burgess is scheduled to make $2 million this season, the Boston Globe reports. There's no word yet if the Patriots plan to extend his contract.

In another move, the Patriots released offensive lineman Al Johnson
