Responding to Patriots owner Bob Kraft's assertions that the team its tentative about doling out new contracts due to uncertainties surrounding the economic climate in the NFL, the nose tackle could only call the situation "frustrating."
Kraft told the Boston Globe that the reason he has been tentative to give Wilfork a new contract is because "we don't want to put ourselves in a position where we can be penalized for making poor decisions now, when we don't know what the rules are."
Wilfork, for one, is not buying the excuse. According to him, economic uncertainties haven't stopped other teams from negotiating deals.
"There are 31 teams out there and a lot of them are making moves," he told the Globe. "They're in the same situation we're in. I understand what he's saying, but at the same token, it's not stopping the other teams from making the moves and what they have to do."
Wilfork said he understood that there may be reason for the league to be concerned, but in that case, he doesn't understand why the Patriots are the only team holding back.
"I see both sides," he said. "I can truly sit here and say, 'I see where the organization is coming from.' But at the same time, they see what I'm seeing. Other teams are getting deals done also."
In five seasons with New England, the 27-year-old has played in a total of 77 games, registering 188 tackles and five fumble recoveries.
