Report: Chiefs' Cassel Strains MCL Matt Cassel is accustomed to following in Tom Brady's footsteps. He took over Brady's starting job last September. He led the Patriots to a respectable record. He signed a hefty deal in the offseason.

And now, just like Brady, Cassel hurt his knee far too early in the season.

The Chiefs quarterback suffered a strained MCL when he was sacked during the third play of Saturday's preseason loss to Seattle and could miss two to four weeks, according to Yahoo Sports.

With Kansas City's Sept. 13 season opener at Baltimore only a couple of weeks away, it is very uncertain whether Cassel will be available. An injury update is expected when the Chiefs return to practice on Monday.

The former Patriots backup signed a lucrative $63 million, six-year deal after being traded to Kansas City in early 2009.
