Defensive lineman Kevin Carter, a 14-year NFL veteran, has been drawing significant interest from the New England Patriots, according to FOXsports.com.
Carter, who turns 36 this September, spent the last two seasons in Tampa Bay prior to becoming a free agent this offseason. The sixth overall pick in the 1995 NFL draft spent his first six seasons with the St. Louis Rams where he gathered 214 total tackles and 62 1/2 sacks in 96 games. In 1999, his fifth year with the Rams, he led the NFL in sacks with 17 en route to his first of two Pro Bowl appearances.
At 28-years-old, he landed with the Tennessee Titans where he would post 112 total tackles and 23 1/2 sacks in 64 contests. There, he switched from the left defensive end to left defensive tackle position in 2004. Such versatility has proven to be a common asset shared by the Pats' staff under Bill Belichick.
In his 14-year career, Carter has yet to miss a single game and has started all but three of 224 career contests since joining the league in '95. The 6-foot-5, 290-pounder has 448 total tackles, 104 1/2 sacks and 18 forced fumbles to go with 15 passes defensed.
