Veteran hurler and future Hall of Famer John Smoltz has seen everything in his 21-year major league career. Well, almost everything.

Smoltz is getting his first taste of the fiercest rivalry in sports when he toes the rubber Thursday night in the Bronx as a member of the Red Sox. The long-time Braves pitcher has faced the Yankees in big situations before Thursday, all coming on baseball's biggest stage: the World Series. Smoltz has gone 1-2 in his career against the Bombers in World Series action, going 1-1 in the 1996 Series and losing his only start in 1999.

Through seven starts in 2009, Smoltz has yet to find his rhythm. A 2-4 record with a 7.12 ERA isn't exactly what the Red Sox were expecting, but Boston's brass has been giving the righty plenty of opportunity to turn things around based on his history of success.

On Thursday, NESN's Heidi Watney spoke with SNY.tv about Smoltz and the crucial four-game series in the Bronx.
