The 2009 comeback story of Mike Timlin continues to roll along.
The former Red Sox reliever has been promoted to the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (the Rockies Triple-A affiliate) on Wednesday, just a few days after pitching a scoreless inning for the Casper Ghosts of the rookie league.
Timlin will likely remain with the Sky Sox and get the call up to the bigs should the Rockies' bullpen run into injuries. The 43-year-old hurled two scoreless innings during his brief stay with the Ghosts, but that's not all the veteran did for Casper — a club that consists of many players half his age.
"He was a great mentor to all the kids. Just to have him here — one-on-one telling them what he's gotten through — it doesn't get any better. He talked a lot about the mental game," Ghosts Manager Tony Diaz told trib.com. "You can say all you want, but if you don't have it right here in your mind, your talent isn't going to show up consistently."
In 47 games in 2008 for the Red Sox, Timlin went 4-4 with a 5.66 ERA.
