Umenyiora bolted from practice on Monday after having a disagreement with defensive coordinator Bill Sheridan, according to a report on NJ.com. Umenyiora reportedly attended morning activities before objecting to Sheridan's criticism of Umenyiora for a play in the Giants' preseason game against the Jets. There was not, according to the report, a confrontation or argument.
Mike Garofalo, the reporter covering the story, wrote on his Twitter page that head coach Tom Coughlin called it an "unexcused absence." Later in the day, he reported that Coughlin spoke with Umenyiora, though "the outcome and tone of that conversation are unknown as of right now."
The report also says that Umenyiora's relationship with Sheridan has not gotten off to a great start, but that he hadn't shown frustrations with Sheridan until Monday.
Garofalo later reported that Umenyiora's agent, Tony Agnone, said that his client will return to practice on Tuesday.
