Alex Rodriguez May Not Need Second Surgery Alex Rodriguez had two options before the season: undergo major surgery to repair a torn labrum and miss much of the season, or undergo a more minor operation and get his hip taken care of fully after the season with a second surgery.

A-Rod went with the minor procedure, and it's paid off tremendously for the Yankees. It may be getting even better for Rodriguez.

The third baseman may not need the previously planned second surgery after the season, according to The New York Post.

"Eighty percent no, 20 percent yes," Rodriguez told The Post on Monday night.

The team has been careful with its superstar slugger, giving him scheduled rest, even if he feels good. He's appeared in 98 games for the Yankees, who hold a comfortable lead in the American League East. He's batted .270 with 23 home runs and 70 RBIs.
