Bengals' Smith Fractures Foot Two Days After Signing The Bengals spent all summer trying to figure out how to sign Andre Smith. Now that they did, they'll have to find a way to win without him.

ESPN.com reports that the offensive lineman — who missed 30 days of training camp while holding out before agreeing to a contract just two days ago — fractured his foot during a non-contact drill during practice on Thursday. He will definitely miss Cincinnati's opener on Sept. 13.

"Andre suffered a small fracture in his left foot during a non-contact drill," Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said in a statement. "Our medical staff tells me the injury will not require surgery. It's too soon to closely predict how long it will be before he can return to practice, but it looks like he's going to miss a few weeks."

The Bengals selected Smith with the sixth overall pick in this year's NFL draft. He signed for six years and $42 million, and he is guaranteed $21 million. According to reports, the Bengals insisted that Smith's contract include a clause that states he will lose a large portion of his salary if his weight exceeds 350 pounds. He currently weighs 335 pounds.

Smith is currently on a roster exemption which lasts until next week because of his late arrival to the team.

Second-year lineman Anthony Collins will start at right tackle until Smith can return.
