The weather in Clemson, S.C., was sloppy. So too was the play of Boston College.
In a game that was delayed twice due to lightning in the area, the Eagles’ offense could muster just 51 total yards in a 25-7 loss to the ACC foe Clemson Tigers.
Justin Tuggle completed just four of his 20 passes for 23 yards, a touchdown and three interceptions. Tuggle led all rushers with just 20 yards on the ground, ahead of Montel Harris, who had 13 yards on 12 carries. Receivers Rich Gunnell and Colin Larmond Jr. did not make it on the score sheet, with Justin Jarvis (1 rec., 13 yards, TD) and Lars Anderson (2 rec., 10 yards) leading the Eagles in receiving.
Clemson’s offense was not overpowering, but on a rainy day, it was more than enough to handle BC. C.J. Spiller paced the Tigers on the ground, picking up 77 yards on 17 carries. The rest of the scoring was taken care of by kicker Richard Jackson, who went 6-for-6 on his field-goal attempts, his longest coming from 52 yards.
BC went just 1-for-12 on third-down conversions and 0-for-1 on fourth-down converstion attempts, as the Eagles picked up their first loss of the year. Next week, the Eagles host Wake Forest at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
The first lightning delay came in the third quarter and lasted 55 minutes. After BC scored its only touchdown of the game, another delay was called, this one lasting 48 minutes.
