Ellsbury Leading the Way for the Red Sox in Wild-Card Race

Jacoby Ellsbury‘s play in the field and two RBIs on Tuesday helped carry the Red Sox to a win over the Rays, something that has been rare for the Red Sox recently. With just two wins in their last 16 games in Tampa Bay, the Red Sox received an offensive and defensive explosion from their center fielder in the 8-4 win.

Mostly known for his speed around the bases and glove in the outfield, Ellsbury has been a key component of the Red Sox offense recently. And it’s no coincidence that the Red Sox are 7-1 in their last eight games with Ellsbury heating up at the plate.

Over those eight games, Ellsbury is 14-for-35 (.400) with four doubles, three triples, five RBIs and six runs scored. His averaged has climbed over .300 to .301 with six multi-hit games in that stretch, and his play has helped the Red Sox extend their lead in the wild card to 3 1/2 games over the Rangers.
