EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre will not play in the preseason finale on Friday night against Dallas.

Coach Brad Childress made the announcement Wednesday. He says he does not want to risk injury to Favre or any other starter, so everyone will rest against the Cowboys.

Favre has only been with the Vikings for a little over two weeks. But Childress says he saw enough progress Monday night to make him feel comfortable sitting down the 39-year-old quarterback.

Favre completed 13 of 18 passes for 142 yards and a touchdown in the 17-10 win at Houston. He played into the third quarter, so Childress will use Friday night to evaluate the other three quarterbacks: Sage Rosenfels, Tarvaris Jackson and John David Booty.
