The Giants will be without defensive end Chris Canty when they take on the Cowboys on Sunday, ruining his homecoming to his former home.

Canty suffered a calf injury on Wednesday, which hampered him in addition to a hamstring injury that slowed him for much of the Giants' preseason. Giants head coach Tom Coughlin told ESPN.com that he missed practice on Friday and has since been ruled out.

He will not get another opportunity to square off against his new favorite rival until Dec. 6, when Dallas visits the Giants.

Canty, 27, was drafted by the Cowboys in the fourth round of the 2005 draft. He spent four years in Dallas, and in 2008, he registered 25 tackles and three sacks in 16 games.

The Giants will also be without safety Kenny Phillips (knee) and cornerback Kevin Dockery (hamstring).
