The Jets added depth to the quarterback position by bringing Kevin O'Connell aboard, and they were also able to find someone who knows the Patriots' playbook.

But as the preseason came to a close, O'Connell thought he would be staying in Foxborough for the time being. Instead he was let go, as Bill Belichick decided that rookie Brian Hoyer would make a more adequate backup to Tom Brady.

"It was definitely a shock to me," O'Connell told the New York Daily News. "I was getting ready to play the last preseason game and do well and continue to learn and grow. Obviously, there was a change of plans. It stung for a second, but as soon as I found out where I was going to be and the coaching staff and players I was going to be around, I was excited."

O'Connell, 24, has appeared in two games in the NFL, both coming in 2008. He has attempted just six passes in his career, completing four of them for 23 yards.
