Jets Sign Punter Steve Weatherford

After picking up punter A.J. Trapasso from the Tennesee Titans, the Jets have waived the punter known for hitting for Jerry Jones' new scoreboard in favor of former Jaguars punter Steve Weatherford.

Weatherford, 26, played in five games for the Jaguars in 2008, averaging 43.6 yards per punt in 21 attempts. He played for the New Orleans Saints for two-plus seasons (2006-2008) and the Kansas City Chiefs for part of the 2008 season.

In 46 career NFL games, Weatherford has 43.5 yards per punt in 199 attempts. The longest punt of his career was recorded at 61 yards.
