Junichi Tazawa's first taste of big-league action is officially over.

The rookie hurler — who was forced into Boston's rotation this summer as starters suffered a slew of injuries — was placed on the 60-day disabled list with a mild left groin strain on Monday. Infielder Chris Woodward was called up from Triple-A Pawtucket to fill his roster spot.

Tazawa went 2-3 with a 7.46 ERA in six appearances (four starts) for the Red Sox. In 20 starts between Double-A Portland and Triple-A, he went 9-7 with a 2.55 ERA. He also was named an Eastern League All-Star and represented Team World in the 2009 All-Star Futures Game.

The 23-year-old signed with Boston on Dec. 11, 2008.

Woodward will be making his third stint with the big club this season. He has appeared at second base, third base and shortstop and has gone 0-for-7 with a walk in eight games. Boston claimed Woodward off waivers from Seattle on Aug. 7.
