He has a few weeks to go, but Bruins center David Krejci is doubtful that his surgically-repaired hip will be healthy enough for the season-opener on Oct. 1 against the Capitals.
"Seventeen days? Two-and-a-half weeks? I don't know," Krejci told the Boston Herald. "I'll say there might be a little chance. Not a big one, but a little one. Maybe 10 percent."
Krejci has been skating with his mates since last week at the optional workouts at Ristuccia Arena in Wilmington. The 23-year-old, who signed a three-year deal this summer, participated in both Sunday's first official preseason skate at the TD Garden as well as Monday morning's skate.
While doubtful for the opener, the Czech native isn't ruling anything out.
"I can't say there's zero percent, because I feel pretty good on the ice," he added. "I don't know how it's going to feel one week from now. I think I probably won't be ready, but there's a chance."
The winner of the Bruins' Seventh Player Award last season underwent surgery in early June to repair a torn labrum in his hip.
