New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan announced that his freshly christened starting quarterback will play just one series in the Jets' final preseason tuneup against the Eagles on Thursday night, according to the New York Post.
Ryan didn't exactly play the part of a promoter to fans, who already were likely displeased to be shelling out top money for a meaningless game.
"He's going to play a lot … in that first series," Ryan joked. "If the fans want to see him play, get there early."
The fans won't be the only unhappy ones, though, as Sanchez said he'd prefer to play.
"I think they know how bad I want to play," Sanchez said in a Monday news conference. "It's just important to me and I need as much practice as possible before that first game. Truthfully, I'd love to play as much as possible, but I know this is typically the game when they let the starters kind of relax a little bit and look at everybody else trying to make the team. I obviously need the work, so these are important reps for me, and a very important series."
While it's good to know that Sanchez isn't looking past his final preseason game, the prospect of seeing Erik Ainge handing the ball to Danny Woodhead isn't an exciting proposition for anybody.
Have no fear, however. Ryan, prepared for the disappointment in the football world, hyped the game with this exiting tidbit:
"It's going to be vanilla football, with not a lot of blitzing."
