Merriman States His Case, Says He Didn't Harm Tequila On Sunday, Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman was accused of choking and restraining an MTV reality star. Now, he's saying that's not at all what happened.

Tila Tequila accused the San Diego star of harming her, but by all indications, there seems to be more to the story. For one, paramedics who were called to Merriman's home reported no injuries to Tequila, according to ESPN.com. Additionally, Merriman said in a statement that he only restrained her because she was intoxicated and he was trying to stop her from driving.

Merriman's attorney, Todd Macaluso, is confident in his client's story and believes he will not be charged with a crime. He told The Associated Press: "There was absolutely no wrongdoing on the part of Mr. Merriman. He essentially was doing what was appropriate under the circumstances in trying to protect the safety of Miss Tequila. There were numerous eyewitnesses that will support his version of the events that transpired at his home."

After Tequila signed a citizen's arrest warrant on Sunday — which charged him with battery and false imprisonment — Merriman was arrested. The Sheriff's Department reported that Tequila had been drinking.
