Powerful Pedroia Was Twice as Nice on Tuesday It’s been a few weeks since Dustin Pedroia went deep, but the Red Sox second baseman snapped out of that funk quickly with a two-run blast in the first inning of Boston’s 10-0 win over the Orioles on Tuesday night.

In fact, the homer felt so good, he decided to launch another one in his very next at bat — this time of the solo variety.

“Just try to hit the ball hard — like always, just try to hit it hard
and if you do that, good things are going to happen,” he said after the win. “I’m not trying to
hit home runs, I’m just trying to hit line drives and sometimes, they
just get up in the air and get out of here, but I’m not trying to do
that.”

It was the second time Pedey went deep twice in a game but the first time in his career that he pulled off the feat in a regular-season contest. Technically, his three RBIs could have been spared in Boston’s blowout win, but there’s no doubt his big blasts put a hurt on the O’s, who managed just five hits on the night.

“We played good, we pitched and we swung the bats good so that’s why we won,” Pedroia said.
