Rare Day Off for Victor Martinez

Victor Martinez will get a day off on Wednesday against the Orioles. With Terry Francona holding him out of the starting lineup and with the Red Sox having a day off on Thursday, Martinez is scheduled to get back-to-back days off — as long as he is not called on to enter Wednesday's series finale against the Orioles.

Martinez has played in 35 of 36 games since joining the Red Sox and has started 34 of those games. The only games he didn't start were Aug. 12 against the Tigers and Aug. 25 against the White Sox. However, on Aug. 25, Martinez was used as a pinch hitter in the seventh inning.

Martinez is hitting .321 with six home runs and 25 RBIs in 35 games with the Red Sox. The team has gone 19-16 in games he has played.
