Now that the PawSox have wrapped things up at McCoy Stadium, more help is on the way for the Red Sox.
The Red Sox activated shortstop Jed Lowrie from the disabled list and recalled catcher Dusty Brown from Pawtucket after the PawSox played their final game of the season on Sunday.
Lowrie was struggling in Pawtucket during his rehab stint. The shortstop was trying to work out some kinks with his sore wrist which suffered an ulnar neuritis earlier this summer. Lowrie hit just 3-for-27 to end the PawSox season but wouldn't say whether his wrist has had anything to do with the skid.
"At this point, it's just about managing it and doing what I can to help the Red Sox] win,'' he told projo.com. "It's something I have to deal with. It's fine. It's not 100 percent.''
Brown will be making his second trip to the big club this season. The nine-year pro hit .264 in 86 games this year for the PawSox.
"I didn't think it [a call-up] was very likely, given the catching situation in Boston,'' Brown said. "I couldn't be more ecstatic. I just tried to play out the last few games, play as well as I can and hope for the best.''
