The Red Sox recalled left-hander Hunter Jones from Triple-A Pawtucket before Wednesday's game against Kansas City.
The 25-year-old southpaw will be making his second stint with Boston in 2009. He was last called up on April 15 and made eight relief appearances, logging an 8.00 ERA (eight earned runs in nine innings) with seven strikeouts and four walks. His big league debut came on April 20 against Baltimore and he held hitters scoreless in each of his first three appearances this season.
In 36 relief appearances for the PawSox in 2009, Jones went 4-3 with two saves and a 4.25 ERA. He allowed 45 hits and held opponents to a .232 average with a .206 mark against lefties.
Boston signed Jones as a non-drafted free agent in 2005. Throughout five seasons in the organization, he has compiled a 22-14 record with 22 saves and a 3.09 ERA.
The Red Sox' active roster is currently at 35 players.
