There was a closed-door meeting regarding Tim Wakefield's near future on Wednesday and judging by those in attendance, it may not be a very good sign for fans of the old veteran.
Wake met with general manager Theo Epstein, manager Terry Francona, pitching coach John Farrell and team doctor Tom Gill prior to Wednesday night's contest with the Angels according to the Providence Journal.
"The meeting we had was to determine whether or not it was safe for me to continue to pitch because my strength has gone down," Wakefield admitted. "As of now I'm planning on pitching Sunday or Monday."
The 43-year-old has pitched just twice since the All-Star break due to an ailing back and left leg. Wake is 11-4 with a 4.22 ERA and earned his first trip to the Midsummer Classic earlier this summer.
