Sanchez Thankful for Namath Pregame Pep Talk It was just a 90-second encounter but when Mark Sanchez spoke to quarterback great Joe Namath prior to the rookie's first career start on Sunday, the Hall of Famer's words were just what Sanchez needed to hear.

Sanchez, the fifth overall pick in this year's draft class asked Namath: "What happened in your first game?"

Broadway Joe, who saw that Sanchez was a little fired up and needed a bit of a cool down, simply replied: "I don't remember."

Apparently, that calming response proved to work for Sanchez, who was about to engage in his first taste of the NFL. Sanchez, who was named the Jets' starter over veteran Kellen Clemens just a few weeks ago, threw 272 yards and a touchdown as he led the Jets to an easy 24-7 win over the Texans in Houston.

What Namath did tell Sanchez was that he remembers his big wins such as the improbable Super Bowl victory over the Colts.

"It ain't about me, either, it's about you today," said Namath according to the New York Daily News. "It's about you playing for these guys."

"That was Joe Namath, taking all the credit from himself and throwing it back to me," Sanchez said. "So to hear that from a legend like that, it kind of gives you the chills. I mean, what a pep talk."
