That, however, changed on Sunday when The Boston Globe’s Amalie Benjamin reported that the reported offer of Clay Buchholz, Justin Masterson, Daniel Bard, Michael Bowden, Felix Doubrount and Nick Hagadone for Halladay was not true.
Benjamin asked Red Sox GM Theo Epstein if that was the deal offered, and Epstein’s response was succinct: “Nope.”
That report opened up speculation, with ESPN’s Peter Gammons saying that the likely deal involved Buchholz, Masterson, Bowden, Hagadone and Josh Reddick.
Will we ever know for sure? Probably not, but that matters not. Roy Halladay is up in the North Country, wasting away quality pitches in the prime of his brilliant career. The Red Sox are in Boston, preparing to welcome in a potential playoff opponent.
Sounds like a fair trade to me.
