Varitek has sat out three of Boston's last four games. In his last start, he tallied one hit in five at bats against the Orioles in Sunday's 9-3 win at Camden Yards.
The lineup also features Jason Bay hitting in the sixth slot behind David Ortiz. Bay hit fifth in Monday's loss and is riding a seven-game hit streak in which he is batting .423 with five homers, 13 RBIs and has scored eight runs.
