Will Kendall Simmons soon be the newest member of the Patriots?

Boston.com reports that the veteran guard worked out at Gillette Stadium on Wednesday, which means he could be a prime candidate to back up left guard Logan Mankins or right guard Stephen Neal. He also could be giving Patriots' fourth-round draft pick Rich Ohrnberger a run for the job.

Simmons — a native of Ripley, Miss. — was selected by the Steelers in the first round of the 2002 draft and has spent his entire career in Pittsburgh. He has played in no less than 14 games at right guard in each of his six years with the Steelers except for 2008, when he played in just four games after rupturing his Achilles.
