Following Saturday's game, Tim Wakefield admitted he was in pain but felt confident that he could make his next scheduled start on Friday.

Two days later, it's a different story.

The 43-year-old will be skipped in the rotation, Amalie Benjamin reported on her Twitter page. Wakefield was scheduled to start Friday against Tampa Bay at Fenway Park, but now will be looked at when the team returns home. He is expected, according to the report, to start in the weekend series in Baltimore, beginning Sept. 18.

A first-time All-Star, Wakefield is 11-4 with a 4.22 ERA. On Saturday, he gave up four runs over six innings.
