The 37-year-old pitcher has been tapped to start Game 2 of the NLCS against Los Angeles, according to ESPN.com.
"It's a good ballpark for him," said Phillies manager Charlie Manuel. "He likes the moment. I actually like him better in this game than I did in the fourth game."
Martinez was supposed to start Game 3 of the NLDS against Colorado, but after the game was postponed due to snow, Martinez was scratched. J.A. Happ ended up starting the makeup game.
Martinez hasn't pitched since Sept. 30 and has only thrown four innings since Sept. 19, but that doesn't mean he isn't qualified to be a No. 2 starter on a playoff team. Manuel insists that he hasn't pitched much in the past month because of strategy.
"I totally understand," Martinez said of the managerial move. "Charlie is probably going to … get the best matchups he can get out there."
Philadelphia will carry 11 pitchers in the series because of a third off day and because of the added bullpen depth provided by the return of Chan Ho Park.
In eight postseason series, Martinez owns a 6-2 record with a 3.40 ERA, 80 strikeouts and 26 walks in 79 1/3 innings.
