A broken thumb and an abundance of embarrassment isn't all that's going to come out of Glen Davis' altercation over the weekend.
Director of basketball operations Danny Ainge told the Boston Herald that Davis will be suspended for at least two games after the forward was involved in a fight over the weekend that resulted in a broken thumb that's sidelining him at least six weeks.
“Yes, we’ll suspend Glen for the game [Tuesday] and [Wednesday] night," Ainge said. "We’ll have further discussion on how long that suspension [will last].”
Big Baby's head coach, Doc Rivers, wasn't thrilled with his bench player to say the least. Davis was brought back to the Celtics this offseason at a hefty price and is expected to play a big role off the Celtics bench.
“I’m supportive of Baby, but I’m very disappointed obviously. It just puts everybody in a bad way," explained the C's skipper. "I’ll make this point: Baby’s not a bad person. He made a bad mistake and he made a bad judgment. Unfortunately it only takes one second or five seconds to make a mistake, and you have to live with it, but he’s not a bad kid. He’s growing, he’s maturing. Obviously he has some ways to go, but we want to help him do that. I really feel that’s part of my job, to help him become a better person and not put himself in ways like this.”
Rivers isn't the only one coming down hard on Davis. Wyc Grousbeck, the C's managing partner, insists that Davis will be paying his way through the games he misses due to this unfortunate turn of events.
“He’s going to have to chip in for this situation he caused,” said Grousbeck. “This was an unauthorized activity resulting in the team losing his services, and he’s going to have to pay for that. There are going to be consequences for that."
