Braylon Edwards is hoping everyone will just stop talking about that whole assault charge thing. That's why he won't talk about it.
The Jets wide receiver, who has been charged with misdemeanor assault after allegedly punching a man outside a Cleveland nightclub earlier this month, won't provide any details about the altercation.
"I have lawyers for that, and that's their job to take care of that," Edwards told ESPN.com. "Right now, I'm focusing on football. That's what I'm here to do. Those people can take care of that and I can focus on helping this team out."
The charge was filed on Monday. Edwards allegedly punched Edward Givens, a friend of LeBron James, after an argument on Oct. 5. Edwards was traded from the Browns to the Jets two days later.
If convicted, Edwards could end up with a $5,000 fine and six months in jail. He will be arraigned in Cleveland Municipal Court on Nov. 17. Edwards' attorney informed ESPN.com that his client will plead not guilty.
Edwards was asked if he did indeed punch Givens, to which he replied, "It's still a legal matter. It's still pending. We'll see what happens with that."
The Jets released a statement on Monday claiming they knew about the allegations prior to the trade and will let the legal process run its course.
