Remember Junior?

Two weeks ago, Junior Seau was the talk of the town as everyone waited for the 40-year-old linebacker to re-sign with the Patriots for another go at a championship run. Now, it appears as though he's ready to make the move, as Versus announced that Seau would be leaving his television show to join the Patriots.

"I'm very fortunate and honored to be involved with two class organizations — the New England Patriots and Versus," Seau said in a release from the network. "I want to thank the management of both for making my return to the NFL with the New England Patriots a reality."

The Seau story was buried locally after the Red Sox' postseason elimination and the Patriots' loss to the Broncos on Sunday hushed sports excitement around the Hub. However, the Patriots didn't forget about Seau, though they have yet to officially announce the signing.

Last week, Bill Belichick confirmed that Seau had worked out for the Pats and that signing him was a possibility. On Tuesday, in his conference call with reporters, Belichick would not comment.

“Did I miss it? Did we announce anything?” Belichick asked after reporters inquired about Seau, according to the Boston Herald. “Oh. [Pause] OK. [Long pause] Well, we don’t have anything to say about it."

Director of player personnel Nick Caserio was equally quiet about the reported signing.

“We haven’t announced anything as of yet,” Caserio said, again according to the Herald. “Really, the only thing we’ve done with him is we’ve given him a physical and we worked him out last week, so that’s really all we have to announce.”

Seau's job at Versus had him hosting Sports Jobs, a show in which he tried his hands at various tough jobs in sports. One such job had him in a face-to-face confrontation with a bull.

"After seeing how hard some of these sports jobs actually were — including getting tackled by a bull — Junior decided he’d rather take his chances on the gridiron," Versus president Jamie Davis said in the release. "All joking aside, we’re excited for Junior to have this opportunity, we wish him the best of luck on his return to the NFL.”
