The thought of just about every football pundit in the country was that if the Titans lost last week's game to the Colts, Vince Young would supplant Kerry Collins as the team's starting quarterback.
Well, those pundits hadn't talked to head coach Jeff Fisher who stated emphatically that Collins will be under center this Sunday at 4:15 p.m.
"Yes," he said in his conference call on Wednesday with reporters when asked if Collins would start. "I’ve not waivered off of that. After the game [last week], I indicated that Kerry is our starter. I put Vince in [for the fourth quarter] because when you get behind and get ahead, it makes sense to get your backups some playing time and that was the reason.
"It was not a move, per se," he added. "It was just simply that. So Kerry returns as our starter."
At this point, it makes sense to wonder why an 0-5 Titans team with little hopes of making the playoffs will continue to start the 36-year-old Collins over the 26-year-old Young, on whom the Titans spent their third-overall pick in 2006. Young is someone who, after winning the Offensive Rookie of the Year, has shown a tremendous need for growth in the NFL.
Running back Chris Johnson said his team is more focused on becoming 1-5 than it is on who will start at quarterback.
"No matter which quarterback is in the game, the plays are the same," Johnson said in his conference call.
"Right now, they say Kerry is our quarterback, and I haven’t heard anything else as far as a quarterback change or anything like that. So, basically it’s all up to Coach Fisher."
