Carlos Beltran and Jacoby Ellsbury in the same outfield sounds like a fantasy team come true. But Red Sox fans can keep dreaming because the scintillating Mets center fielder is staying put in Flushing, N.Y.
A major league source told WEEI.com that the Mets not only plan on keeping Beltran, but that the team won't even entertain offers for the 32-year-old. This comes in the wake of a recent report in the Boston Herald indicating that the Mets may look into trading the center fielder to Boston should the Red Sox be unable to re-sign Jason Bay this offseason.
Beltran still has two years at $18.5 million a season left on his seven-year contract. Not only do the Mets seemingly plan on keeping Beltran, they plan on making a strong bid to build around him — most notably in the form of free agent left fielders Bay and Matt Holliday.
Beltran is coming off an injury-plagued season in which he hit .325 with 10 homers and 48 RBIs in 81 games.
