The severed head of Red Sox Hall of Famer Ted Williams was mistreated and abused at the Alcor Life Extension Foundation in Scottsdale, Ariz., the New York Daily News reports.
In the tell-all book Frozen by Larry Johnson, a former executive at the facility, the shocking details of the mistreatment of Williams' head are revealed.
According to Johnson, Williams' head was decapitated at the facility by technicians with no medical certification and the technicians photographed their actions. The head was also used for batting practice by a technician who was trying to dislodge it from a tuna fish can.
Williams body was brought to the facility following his death in 2002 to be frozen in case future generations create technology to revive him.
Johnson will appear on ABC's Nightline on Tuesday to discuss his book.
