Bruins Assign Brad Marchand to Providence, Place Trent Whitfield on Waivers

Prior to Friday's game at Buffalo, the Bruins assigned forward Brad Marchand to Providence and placed Trent Whitfield on waivers for the purpose of assigning him to Providence, according to general manager Peter Chiarelli.

Since being recalled to Boston on Oct. 18, Marchand has played in 12 of the Bruins' 14 games and registered zero goals and one assist. Prior to his stint in Boston, he led the P-Bruins in goals and was third overall in scoring with six goals and two assists for eight points.

Marchand was drafted by Boston in the third round of the 2006 draft.

Whitfield was recalled to Boston on Oct. 21 and played in seven games for the Bruins. He did not dress for the last four games. In six games with Providence, he had three goals and five assists for eight points.

Whitfield is in the midst of his 12th NHL season.
