The Bruins recalled Mikko Lehtonen from the Providence Bruins on an emergency basis on Wednesday afternoon, a move announced by general manager Peter Chiarelli.

Lehtonen will join the Bruins for their morning skate on Thursday and will be available for Boston's matchup that night against the Canadiens at the TD Garden.

In 11 games with the P-Bruins this season, Lehtonen has notched three goals and seven assists for 10 points with 25 penalty minutes. He was the P-Bruins' goals leader last season with 28 and finished fourth overall in the AHL in scoring with 53 points in 72 games.

Last season, Lehtonen made a brief stay with the Bruins on April 11 for one game against the Sabres.

Boston selected the Espoo, Finland, native in the third round of the 2005 draft.
