Just days after the Bruins played the Red Wings — a team suffering from numerous cases of the flu — Bruins forward David Krejci was diagnosed with the H1N1 flu.
As a result, the 23-year-old will be isolated from the team until he is symptom- and fever-free for 24 hours.
"Like most people, we are taking many precautions to try to prevent our players and staff from contracting the H1N1 virus," Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli said in a statement. "Our medical staff is working with David to get him healthy as soon as possible, and our players and staff will continue to take precautions with hopes of preventing the spread of the virus to others in the organization."
The illness presents yet another setback for Krejci, who posted solid numbers last year in his first full season with the Bruins. He underwent hip surgery shortly after the Bruins were eliminated from the playoffs last spring, and he returned to the lineup ahead of schedule for the season opener.
He has just one goal and four assists in 14 games this season after netting 22 goals and 51 assists last year.
Krejci joins Edmonton Oilers defenseman Ladislav Smid, Colorado Avalanche goalie Peter Budaj, Washington Capitals forward Quintin Laing and New York Islanders center Doug Weight as players with confirmed cases of the H1N1 flu this season. Weight returned to the lineup on Wednesday.
