Erik Cole and the Hurricanes Are Flipping Out The first seven weeks of this NHL season have been enough to make anyone flip out, but on Thursday night in Raleigh, N.C.,  Hurricanes forward Erik Cole got a little help from Maple Leafs defender Ian White, who dished out a textbook hip check on the tall attacker.

If the Bruins beat the Thrashers and no one is there to see it, did it really happen? In Thursday night’s shootout win in Atlanta, Bruins fans may have noticed something weird in their NESN HD feed: very, very, very few fans in the crowd at Phillips Arena. Although the announced 12,112 fans in attendance must have been in the bathroom the entire game, thousands in New England were tuning into NESN to watch the Black and Gold grab an important road win. The B’s may have given up a late goal in the contest, but they got the two points and some love from the hockey Hub’s faithful.

“It was more of an inconsistent game than a really bad game, IMO. The Bruins
looked very good in spurts, they’ve now got Milan Lucic back to good health, and
Rask definitely earned his paycheck despite the late goal. The offense still has problems making passes TO rather than BEHIND teammates,
but I’m more confident than I have been in a long time that the team is more
than Tim Thomas playing behind a bunch of stiffs.”

The Ducks’ Scott Niedermeyer is usually causing problems for opposing forwards in Anaheim, but on Thursday night, he was causing problems in the stands with a piece of his equipment. Check out the reaction alongside the glass when Niedermeyer offers his stick to the crowd during the postgame star of the game presentation.
