People around here who remember Jamie Silva usually remember him for one thing: the dumpster diving.
Or they remember him for being one of Boston College's best safeties in recent memory.
Silva finished his BC career after a magical run with Matt Ryan in 2007 and subsequently signed with Indianapolis as a free agent. After limited participation in his rookie season in 2008, Silva has emerged as a special teams weapon this year.
"I get jacked up for every game, as you know," Silva told The Boston Globe's Michael Vega. "This one, I know everybody from Boston, everyone from Rhode Island, everybody that saw me play in college will be watching and excited about this game as well."
Playing for the Colts is a bit of a conflict of interest for the Rhode Island native, but he hasn't let that get in the way. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for some in his home state.
"Last year, I went to a golf course with some buddies in Rhode Island — Silver Spring Golf Course — and they said, 'You guys aren't welcome,'" Silva said.
While Silva is focused on helping the Colts stay undefeated this year, he still has time to check in on his alma mater.
"I was really happy to see Spaz [Frank Spaziani] get the head coaching job and do what he's done with the program," he said. "A lot of people felt BC was going to have a tough year and the season's not even close to over and they're going to be going to a bowl and they could still make it to the ACC championship.
"They're having a good year and I'm really happy for Coach Spaz because he's a hell of a coach and he deserves it."
